Participants:
Bachelor and Master students in Mathematics.
Analysis I-III and some basic knowledge of ODEs or PDEs is necessary.
Abstract:
This seminar will be devoted to mathematical methods and models for the description of cell-based biological processes, such as stem cell differentiation or cancer development. It will be based on projects related to different classes of differential equations models, their analysis and simulation. The specific topics will include:
  • compartmental and structured population models of cell production systems,
  • reaction-diffusion equation for pattern formation,
  • partial differential equations models of cancer growth.
We will introduce a set of tools for mathematical analysis of system dynamics arising from coupling of discrete and continuous processes of growth, transition and transport. The mathematical focus will be well-posedness as well as stability and asymptotic analysis of selected models.
Materials:
The topics will be distributed in the first session on 26th of April.
